Success stories are always enjoyable and informative, but a word of caution - the stories you will read here, while true, may or may not be indicative of the responses that a different person might experience. These stories are meant to demonstrate some of the many benefits of chiropractic treatments. Dr. Stowe
Tom (not his real name) came into another clinic where I was working, with low back pain. He is a captain in the reserves and had just returned from his 2nd tour in Iraq and just didn't feel right. Tom appeared in good physical shape, mid 30's and looking forward to going back to work as an architech. He had never been to a chiropractor before but thought he would give us a try.
After a complete physical exam, orthopedic and neurological testing and x-rays, I explained to Tom that I thought he could benefit from our treatments and he agreed to begin our protocol. Within a few treatments, Tom told me his low back felt much better and maybe he didn't need to continue with my protocol; however, I explained to him that I wasn't just treating his low back, but rather, his entire spine and nervous system. I explained that "structure equals function" - that is, when the structure of the body is in proper alignment, then the entire nervous system communicates with the brain and allows for better function of the entire body.
I am not sure if Tom completely believed or understood what I was talking about, but he agreed that he would continue the protocol. In my practice, I always re-exam my patients after their protocol is complete to determine what improvements have been made and what, if any, changes need to be made for future treatments. To my surprise, Tom came in for his re-exam and seemed very excited. I completed the re-exam, which was all completely normal and then asked Tom if there was anything else he wanted to tell me. He proceeded to explain that he had never felt better in his life. Not only was his low back pain gone, he had just finished a manditory run for the military with his fastest time ever, that he is studying for a board exam and his concentration was great.
I asked Tom what he had been doing differently since his return from Iraq besides my treatments and he told me "nothing". He went on to explain that he completely believes that it was the treatments he received that caused all of these improvements. That conversation was several months ago, and today Tom is a regular patient in that clinic, continuing to experience those same wonderful results.
