You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from regular chiropractic visits, but since Houston Sports have been so much fun lately and we are focusing on athletes we'll start by giving you an idea on just a few (3) of the ways visiting a chiropractor regularly will increase your performance and overall make you feel better before, after and during your game.
Before I start, let's think about professional athletes for a minute. Athletic performance is affected by a combination of strength, flexibility, speed and coordination. These (very overpaid) athletes do work very hard at what they do. Football players basically get in 10 car crashes per game, their body doesn't know the difference, I'm sure. Ever wondered how they do it for so long? How can their body handle that? Many names to name a few, Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Dan O’Brien and Arnold Schwarzenegger, swear by their chiropractors. Tom Brady is 40 right now, 40! He's been in the game since 2000, 18 years! Here's a quote directly from the Patriot's pope himself, "Chiropractic just makes you feel so much better. When I walk out of the clinic, I feel like I’m about three inches taller and everything’s in place. And as long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.” Well, there you have it. Experts say that 90 percent of all world-class athletes use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and increase their performance potential. All NFL teams rely on Chiropractors in varying capacities, and 77 percent of athletic trainers have referred players to a chiropractor for evaluation or treatment. Want to be the best? Get your body right!
1. Enhance Performance/Prevent Injuries
Numerous studies support the fact that chiropractic care helps athletes achieve an optimal level of performance. A Canadian research team included chiropractic care in the rehabilitation program of 16 injured female long-distance runners. The runners recovered quickly; seven of them actually scored “personal best” performances while under chiropractic care, although there may be other contributing factors. When you visit West U Chiropractic we treat you as an individual when doing our initial evaluation. There isn't one treatment that works for all basketball players and one for all volleyball players, that's not realistic. We need to know what you do, how you workout, what you eat, your hobbies, etc. We will tailor a comprehensive program aimed at injury avoidance for you.
2. Undo Punishment Sports Can Do
When the spine exhibits imperfections in movement and/or alignment, the resulting misalignments can create focal areas of irritation in the nervous system, which subsequently interfere with the functions of all other systems in your body. As a result, the athlete suffers. When athletes are adjusted regularly, they will often attribute their success to regular chiropractic care. Even if you don’t play what one would consider to be an impact game like football, soccer, baseball, volleyball, softball, wrestling and lacrosse, to name a few, involve a lot of physical demands that affect your spine and muscles too.
3. Drug Free Treatment
Many studies have shown that chiropractic treatment helps athletes recover from injuries without the need for painkillers or invasive surgery. Painkillers are used too much, I could go on forever with this subject but we'll leave that for another blog. By finding out what works for you and using a combination of stretching, Graston Technique, massage, electrical muscle stimulation and more there are a number of ways visiting West U Chiropractic can break down scar tissue, release endorphins, alleviate pain and overall increase your performance and wellbeing.
Again, there are so many more ways that regular chiropractic care can assist in your overall health, but for the athletes out there, if you want to be the Tom Brady of whatever sport and league you are in, think about the benefits of a regular visit to our office and let's make it happen!
